More Transmission Planned for MD of Pincher Creek
The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) does an annual update of its long term transmission plan for the province. The most recent plan released in January 2020, continues to focus on the need for significant new transmission in the South and East Central Regions of the province solely to support forecast renewable growth.
In the MD of Pincher Creek, The Chapel Rock To Pincher Creek (CRPC) Project continues to be contentious because of the ongoing concerns regarding the impact on highly sensitive environmental areas including intact areas of native grasslands and “at risk” species as well as the destruction of the iconic views that are deeply valued by local residents and visitors. Numerous other concerns continue to be discussed and will be pursued further when formal application is made to the Alberta Utilities Commission by AESO and AltaLInk.
